E20 compatible cars in India
There isn't a single official public list of every E20-compatible car model - compatibility is stated in each car's owner manual. But there's a reliable rule of thumb based on manufacturing year, plus a quick way to confirm your exact car.
Rule of thumb: Cars manufactured from April 2023 are E20 material-compliant, and cars from 2025 onwards are E20-tuned. Cars made before April 2023 were designed for E10.
E20 compatibility by year
| Manufactured | E20 status | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 onwards | E20 tuned | Nothing - drive as usual |
| Apr 2023 – 2024 | E20 material-compliant | Safe to use E20 |
| Before Apr 2023 | Designed for E10 | Usable; watch mileage & fuel-system parts |
Popular makes and the transition
Leading manufacturers selling E20-ready cars in India include Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Volkswagen, Skoda, Renault, Nissan and MG. Newer models and recent variants of popular cars - such as the Swift, Baleno, Fronx, Creta, Venue, Nexon, Punch, XUV700, Scorpio-N and City - are built to run on E20. Always confirm your specific variant and year, as the same model spans both E10 and E20 generations.
How to confirm your exact car
- Owner's manual - look for the "fuel" or "fuel recommendation" section; it states the maximum ethanol blend.
- Fuel-flap / filler sticker - some cars note "E20 compatible."
- Authorised dealer - they can confirm by VIN/chassis number.
